Term 3 Highlights 5JM
During this term 3, Year 5 have been participating in the Thematic topic, Impact.
Mrs Murphy's class have really enjoyed finding out about the layers of the rainforest and the different endangered and unique species of animals and plants which live in this special habitat. The boys and girls have also been learning about palm oil and the effects and impact of deforestation around the world. We also enjoyed reading about the interesting story of the 'Kapok Tree' and how we could persuade 'The Woodcutter' not to cut down this famous tree by writing brilliant persuasive letters as part of our Writing this term.
Fabulous drawings and paintings of tigers in the style of the artist Henri Rousseau were achieved, along with creating 3D models of the rainforest. This Art and Design and Science and Technology work was on display in our classroom and last week in the school Foyer. Have a look at some of our class work on the noticeboard.
During Eco Week and throughout this term, we have been enjoying learning outdoors and discovering about the Woodland habitat, making leaf mobiles and mini woodland maps in our school grounds.
The highlight of our Term 3 Thematic World Around Us topic, Impact, was last week, during our 'Special Year 5 Fun Day' event when Casey's Creatures visited our school and we could see and touch at first hand, real rainforest animals, snakes, hedgehogs and incredible an incredible, fast moving armadillo!
