Yr3KH Glacier Experiment24 January 2022 (by Class Teacher (teacher)) |
Today in class, Yr3KH carried out an experiment linked to our topic of Weather Watchers. We spent some time learning about Global Warming and how it was causing some glaciers to melt which in turn can cause the sea level to rise. We wanted to find out whether melting glaciers on land or melting ice in the sea cause the sea level to rise. We made sure we had a fair test by ensuring the numbers of ice cubes and water we used was the same and then we made our own predictions about what would happen to the water level as the ice melted. We monitored the water level and discovered that melting ice on land causes the sea levels to rise more than the melting ice in the sea. We had great fun carrying out this experiment, learning a little about Global Warming and testing out our predictions.
