Science Week 7RK19 March 2019 (by Class Teacher (teacher)) |
Miss Kane's class found out "What's Under Your Feet?" for Science Week 2019.
7RK headed outside into the afternoon sun today, to find out what really is living under our feet. We dug up a piece of sod and then carefully sifted through it to look for different invertebrates that might be living in the soil. We used our classification skills to identify 12 very friendly little earthworms of all different shapes and sizes.
The activity is part of a larger scientific study that is taking place for the British Trust for Ornithology to hellp scientists understand the relationship between climate, the availability of invertebrates and how this impacts UK bird numbers and their migration patterns. We will be keeping up to date on any of the findings throughout the rest of the year!
